Close-up view inside a freezer with a thick build-up of white frost and ice along the back and bottom surfaces. A large, fluffy clump of frost is in the centre, illuminated by a cold blue-tinted light. The freezer appears empty otherwise.

Prajakta Potnis Open Studio

Join artist-in-residence Prajakta Potnis for an Open Studio presenting research and works-in-progress developed during her year-long residency at Studio Voltaire. The artist will be present to share insights into her process and discuss the ideas behind her work.

Potnis has been exploring the kitchen as a site of inquiry, focusing on the emergence of post-war community kitchens and tracing their histories to the present day. Her research examines how food aid has evolved, mapping the networks through which aid and meals are distributed across the city. This has informed the creation of a new body of work spanning works on paper, sculpture and film, that reflects on aid, philanthropy, nutrition and the labour of an overworked, fragile body.

While in London, Potnis has followed two distinct threads of observation: looking upward to the UK’s ever-changing skies; and navigating the everyday life and complex realities of the city as an outsider. Alongside these observations, she has been drawn to spaces that seem to hold the city together, from charity shops to community aid centres.

Potnis will be in conversation with editor and researcher Vasundhara Mathur, discussing her work and shared areas of research at 3 pm on Sunday 21 September 2025. Free, no booking required.

Potnis is the second recipient of a year-long international residency as part of the LOEWE FOUNDATION / Studio Voltaire Award.
