Guido Yannitto Residency

Guido Yannitto (b. 1981, Argentina) will be in residence at Studio Voltaire from September to December 2026.

Yannitto’s practice explores the criollo loom, a weaving technique often relegated to the margins of regional craft. The artist examines its principles through changes in materials, colours and structures. Spanning textile, drawing, video, installation and ceramics, his work moves fluidly between the oral lineages of hand-weaving and the industrial nature of the jacquard loom. A vivid Andean colour palette is a key feature of his work, influencing both its appearance and his approach to digital processing. For Yannitto, the loom is a tool for encoding and translating ideas, raising ongoing questions about geography, fiction and identity when weaving techniques are used in new forms.

At Studio Voltaire, Yannitto will develop To Hack the Loom. This project asks how one can turn digital errors into physical thread. By focusing on digital glitches such as pixel sorting, channel shifts fand corrupted file structures, the artist explores these glitches as an underlying logic to be tested against the mechanical parameters of the industrial loom.

  1. Guido Yannitto (b. 1981, Argentina, lives and works in Salta, Argentina) is a visual artist with over 25 years of practice spanning textiles and tapestry, drawing, video, and installation.

    In 2009, Yannitto completed the Artists' Programme at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, and in 2013, he travelled to Antarctica for the artistic residency organised by the Dirección Nacional del Antártico (D.N.A.).

    The artist was selected for several international residencies: Flora Ars+Natura (Bogotá, Colombia), Jan van Eyck Academie (Maastricht, Netherlands), Pivô (São Paulo, Brazil), and RAVI (Liège, Belgium). In 2019, he was awarded first prize in the Textile category at the Salón Nacional, and served as art co-director on the film Husek, directed by Daniela Seggiaro.

    His work is included in the collections of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Salta, Banco Itaú Argentina, Museo MACRO (Rosario), Museo Caraffa (Córdoba), Museo Sívori (Buenos Aires), Museo MACBA (Buenos Aires), the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), and Maastricht University (Netherlands).

    He is the co-founder of Remota Galería.
