Art Law Workshop
Art Contracts Explained
Art lawyer Adam Jomeen leads an interactive workshop introducing and unpacking the key commercial terms in commonly encountered artist agreements. The workshop will provide artists with an overview of key concepts and aim to help them feel informed and confident when entering legal agreements.
Drawing on his extensive experience advising artists on contracts and disputes, Jomeen will highlight the essential “ingredients” of a legally binding contract under English law before introducing a variety of contracts encountered by artists in practice, including consignment and representation agreements. He will share insights from the frontline when negotiating key commercial terms and common pitfalls.
If time allows, Jomeen will also discuss some of the many real-world disputes between artists and dealers that have arisen from ambiguous, poorly drafted or non-existent written contracts.
The workshop will not constitute legal advice and will be held under the 'Chatham House Rule' to encourage open discussion creating a safe space for participants to engage and learn from one another.
