Civic Programme
Studio Voltaire commissions a wide range of long-term collaborative projects, engaging with artists, residents, community groups and healthcare providers to create spaces for people to share experiences, research and collaborate to make artwork.
Our Civic Programme works towards redefining the role of arts and heritage to provide alternative sites and frameworks for commissioning and engagement. These programmes expand and strengthen our civic role, providing opportunities for people to be creative in new contexts.
These ambitious programmes and partnerships explore the role of culture in a wider context and contribute to the civic and cultural life of the city, in particular to our locale in South London. Projects often respond to key social and political issues that people experience individually and collectively whilst questioning established norms, histories, ways of thinking and living.
We have previously collaborated with Barby Asante, Sunil Gupta, Monster Chetwynd, Raju Rage, They Are Here, Rehana Zaman, Unearthed Collective and Jay Bernard, as well as collaborating with a range of long-term and project-based partners, including London LGBT+ Forums Network, Lambeth Archives, Voades, Black Cultural Archives, Spectacle Media, Wandsworth LGBT+ Forum, Gendered Intelligence, Mosaic LGBT+ young persons’ Trust, akt, This is Clapham BID and Imperial Health Charity.
We have recently been awarded a major four-year grant from Paul Hamlyn Foundation to support our important and impactful Civic Programmes and sustain them over longer periods of time.
We are always delighted to hear from new partners and community groups who are interested in working with us. Please get in touch via participation@studiovoltaire.org.
